November 2009 Nicaragua Distribution

Rotarians from District 7670, including 4 generations of District governors, traveled to Leon and Chinandega, Nicaragua in November 2009 to distribute 260 wheelchairs they had sponsored. Frank Dean, who is District Governor Designee Elect, and a most enthusiastic supporter, said it all: “I love it when a plan comes together.” It did!

DISTRICT 7670 WHEELCHAIR MILESTONE

With the upcoming distribution of wheelchairs in Leon, Nicaragua, District 7670 will have participated in distributing over 4,000 wheelchairs in Central and Latin America.  It all began with Past District Governor Dennis Sanders when he took the first container to Guatemala  (280 wheelchairs), and next was 280 wheelchairs for Bogota, Colombia.  We then were partners with a district in California for 5 container to Colombia (1,400 wheelchairs).  Then we sent a  container to Managua, Nicaragua (280 wheelchairs).  In 2008 we partnered with the Atlanta, Georgia district for 5 containers to the Caribbean (1,400 wheelchairs).  Also in 2008 we distributed 100 specially modified wheelchairs to children suffering with spina bifida in Medellin, Colombia.  This coming September we are partnering with the Rotary district from Alaska to send 3 container (840 wheelchairs) to Nicaragua.  That is a total of 4,300 wheelchairs.

It is estimated that for every wheelchair distributed 6 care givers are impacted.  That translates to District 7670 impacting the lives of 25,800 in Latin and Central America.

It is very important for all clubs in the district to send their contribution checks to Dr. Jon B. Grant, Rotary Club of Foster City, 653 Pitcairn Drive, Foster City, CA 94404-3744.  Dr. Grant personally manages District 7670 account.  Please put on the check that the funds are to go into our account.  You might want to consider attaching a note thanking Dr. Grant for his work with out district.
