Bill began his Rotary experience in 2001 serving as the Club Secretary of the Rotary Club of Blowing Rock. He served as the Club President in 2005-2006. His club was selected as “Best Club in the District” for medium sized clubs during his presidency, as well as receiving the Rotary International Presidential Citation Award. He became the District Information Division Manager and also served as an Assistant Governor. He is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Rotarians for Hearing Regeneration (RfHR) Rotary Action Group (RAG). He is a Paul Harris Fellow as well as a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI).
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM and his Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. He served for 24 years as a Marine Corps Officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his career, he served two tours of combat in Viet Nam earning numerous awards including a Purple Heart, two Navy Commendation Medals with combat “V”, and two Meritorious Service Medals. He then spent 14 years as a Defense Contractor supporting the Navy and Marine Corps in mission critical command and control systems and wireless combat information systems. He retired from Northrup Grumman Information Systems in 2000.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the High Country United Way. He is also working with the Second Harvest Food Bank collecting salvage food and delivering it to the local homeless shelter.
He is active in his church, serving on the Outreach Committee and as a Eucharistic Lay Minister and an Usher. He was on the Blowing Rock Planning Board for several years. His service to the community has been recognized when he was awarded the Blowing Rock “Citizen of the Year” in 2005. He is also the Adjutant of the American Legion, Post 256.
He is married to his wife of 45 years, Barbara, and they have two daughters and four grandchildren. Barbara is a retired Critical Care/Cardiac Care Nurse and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the High Country United Way.
